Summer Skincare: Taking Care Of Your Skin

Posted by Chandra Nath on

Have fresh, glowing skin all summer long and keep your tan going for longer! Dig out your beachwear and prepare to bare those legs with our summer skincare tips for you and the family:

  1. Keep your skin moisturised

Take short cool showers as long hot showers may cause dehydrated skin. Apply a moisturiser to your skin immediately after bathing to help your skin retain moisture.
  2. Protect your skin well

We all love some sunshine, but it can be harsh on our skin. Remember to protect your skin properly under the sun by applying sun cream all over your body before sun exposure, and reapply regularly throughout the day, especially after each time you have been in the water. Where possible try to avoid being in the sun between noon and 3pm when the sun is most powerful.
  3. Treating Sunburn

If you do get burned, it is important to soothe skin as soon as possible by applying aftersun lotion and avoiding direct sun exposure.
  4. Children and Cream

Children are not very keen on being rubbed with sun cream so you should try to make it as fun as possible. Allow your child to apply their own sun cream for easily accessible spots such as the arms, legs or cheeks. Applying sun cream regularly is a good habit to learn at an early age.
  5. Wet Wipes for the Journey

Bring wet wipes when you go on your summer holiday. Wet wipes are brilliant for everything from removing dirt to cooling little faces on hot summer days – they are also very handy when you’re not close to soap and water. Try to use products formulated without perfume or colourants to help avoid skin irritation.
  6. Summer Legs

For a lot of women, bare legs are a must in summer. To help avoid skin irritation after shaving, start by exfoliating the skin to remove dead skin cells. Remember to shave in the direction of the hairs to help avoid skin irritation and finish by applying an unperfumed moisturiser to reduce the risk of skin irritation.
  7. Drink Plenty of Water

It cannot be said too often: remember to drink water, especially when the sun is shining during summer months, this should be a key part of your summer skincare routine. An adult needs at least 6-8 glasses of water a day. The only thing the body needs more than liquid is oxygen. If your skin does not get enough fluids, it can lose its elasticity. Test your own skin by lifting the skin on your hand, it should fall back down immediately when you let go of it if it’s properly hydrated.
  8. Go for the Natural Look

Going make-up free is a great way to allow your skin to breathe and bring out your natural radiance. If you do wear make-up remember to remove it as soon as possible when you get home with a moisturising cleanser. And of course, remember to apply a good face moisturiser and sun cream when you are outdoors in the sun.
  9. Tackling Sweat Stains

After a hot summer day, your favourite shirt or dress might have annoying sweat stains. They are easily removed with the Neutral 0% Laundry detergent range which are pH neutral, reducing the risk of skin irritation, and leave your clothes soft and radiant.
